About the Terracotta Warriors:
Terracotta Warriors and Horses full name: Xi ‘an Museum of Qin Shi Huang’s Terracotta Warriors and Horses
The Museum of Qin Shihuang’s Terracotta Warriors and Horses is located in the east of Lintong County, 37 kilometers from Xi ‘an, with Mount Li to the south and Wei River to the north. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.
In 1974, three large terra-cotta warrior pits were discovered in the east of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum, and were successively excavated and protected. The three pits are finished in shape, with a total area of 22,780 square meters, and there are about 7,400 pottery figurines and horses of the same size as real horses in the pits. The three pits were named the first, second and third Terracotta Pit respectively.
No. 1 pit is the largest, the pit is 5 meters deep, the area of 14,260 square meters, there are more than 6,000 pottery pottery horses in the pit, orderly arranged into a ring square. At the east end of the pit, there are three rows of warriors, armed with crossbows and long-range weapons, like a forward force, followed by the main force of 6,000 armored figurines, armed with spears, halberds and other long weapons, with 35 chariots and four horses arranged in 11 holes into a 38-way column. The north and south wings of the rearguard.
No. 2 Terra-cotta warriors pit plane is curved, an area of 6,000 square meters, is a west to east, by cavalry, infantry, crossbow soldiers and chariots mixed formation of a large army. It can be roughly divided into four relatively independent units: the crossbow terracotta warriors, the four horses and chariots, the mixed long terracotta warriors and the cavalry terracotta warriors. There are more than 1,300 pottery figurines and horses, more than 80 chariots, and a large number of metal weapons.
The No. 3 pit of Terracotta warriors and horses has a concave plane and an area of about 520 square meters. It is an organic whole with the No. 1 and No. 2 pits, which seem to be the headquarters of the three armies of the division. 68 Terracotta warriors and 4 horses and 1 cart were unearthed.
The Museum of Qin Shihuang’s Terracotta Warriors and Horses is the largest ancient military museum in China. After the excavation and opening to the public, the terracotta warriors caused a sensation in the world. In 1978, former French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac said after a visit: “There are seven wonders in the world, the discovery of the Terracotta warriors can be said to be the eight wonders.” If you don’t see the pyramids, you don’t see Egypt, if you don’t see the terracotta warriors, you don’t see China.” Since then, the Terracotta warriors have been hailed as the eighth wonder of the world.”
