Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao
The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the founding leader Mao Zedong. It is located in Tiananmen Square, south of the Monument to the People’s Heroes, and is located on the site of the original Zhonghua Gate. On November 24, 1976, in accordance with the resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the foundation laying ceremony of the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was held in Tiananmen Square.
The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was inaugurated and opened to the public on September 9, 1977. It covers an area of more than 57,000 square meters and has a total construction area of 28,000 square meters. The main body is square, with 44 exposed columns made of yellow granite from Fujian. Foshan Shiwan flower-decorated pottery panels are installed between the columns, and the whole body is covered with Qingdao granite veneer. The roof has two layers of glass eaves with sunflower reliefs between the eaves. The base has two platforms, all of which are made of reddish-red granite from the Dadu River in Sichuan, and are surrounded by Fangshan white marble evergreen flower-decorated railings.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 8:00-12:00 (national statutory holidays and relevant memorial days opening hours will be notified separately).
