Length of the Great Wall of China
The construction of the Great Wall of China began in the Warring States Period, and it was built and expanded through several dynasties to the scale seen today.
The Great Wall was not built at one time, but was built and rebuilt by multiple dynasties, so it is difficult to determine the exact length of the Great Wall in each dynasty.
But a brief description of a few notable phases of construction in history can be made:
Qin Great Wall (First Emperor built) : After Qin Shi Huang unified the six countries, a large-scale construction was carried out, called the First Emperor’s Great Wall.
It was roughly located along today’s Shaanxi, Shanxi and other places, but the specific length is difficult to accurately estimate due to incomplete historical records.
Ming Great Wall: Significant construction and strengthening took place during the Ming Dynasty, forming most of the structure known today as the Great Wall.
The main section of the Ming Wall, located in the present-day north, included several strategic points and mountains.
The total length of the Great Wall is difficult to measure precisely because it is constantly being built and repaired, and because the Great Wall is not a single continuous wall, but is made up of multiple parts, some of which no longer exist.
Regarding the longest dynasty and the specific length of the present, it is usually indicated that the size and preservation of the Great Wall in the dynasty.
At present, most people say that the length of the Great Wall is the remains of the specified era of the Great Wall, about 8851.8 kilometers. The longest wall actually refers to the Ming Dynasty Wall, which was built and strengthened on a large scale during the Ming Dynasty and is the largest construction in history.
