After the destruction of the Southern Han Dynasty in the Song Dynasty, the southern city wall was demolished and the southern city was built along the river to build the “double Que”. In the Qing Dynasty, the present Beijing Road from north to south was Chengxuan Straight Street, Shuangmen Bottom, Xiongzhen Straight Street, Yongqing Street, famous for selling books, antique markets, and flower markets. In 1936, it was renamed “Han Min Road”. In 1949, the original name was restored. In 1966, it was renamed “Beijing Road”.
In July 2002, the central location of the northern section of Beijing Road unearthed 11 layers of pavement from the Tang Dynasty to the Republic of China period, while the southern section unearthed a total of 5 layers of Gongbei building from the Song Dynasty to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The unearthed cultural relics include a large number of stone bars, wall bricks, as well as the Song Dynasty Gongbei Tower foundation, the Ming Dynasty Gongbei tower holding drum stone.
